I'm working on a script where I need to export certain assets as 32 bit PNGs (PNG24 + Alpha). When exporting these manually - Quick Export as PNG works perfectly every time and preserves an alpha bit depth - even if the image has no transparency. But Quick Export as PNG doesn't work in scripting. All you need to do for 32 bits is make sure the image is RGB and has an alpha channel.

The transparency in this document will be variable. In other words, it will work over different colored backgrounds as opposed to requiring a specific anti-al I have a 32bit PNG converting to 8bit in Photoshop. My understanding the conversion should drop the file size of the image to a quarter of its original (because 32/8 = 4). Say a 750kb 32-PNG file should get to ~188kb 8-bit PNG, but my 8-bit image still has 333kb in size.

But when I use 16 or 8 bit file, I can save to bmp but it's not of rgba format. The background is white instead of transparent when used as opengl texture.
